As part of the 23 cent gas hike that was signed into law last week by Governor Christie, the Hudson Bergen Light Rail line had funding for an expansion approved.
The proposed expansion would establish new stops at 91st Street in North Bergen, Ridgefield, Palisades Park, Leonia, Englewood Route 4, Englewood Town Center, and Englewood Hospital. It would create a ride that would take passengers from Englewood Hospital to Hoboken Terminal in just over half an hour.
This is a big boost for public transportation in the area, as it will connect Bergen County all the way down to Bayonne. The project is expected to cost $225 million and there are still several steps that need to be taken before construction can begin, but the signing of the bill is a step in the right direction.
