As reported by Jersey Digs, exciting new plans have been announced for a 16-acre lot across from the Liberty Science Center that has sat empty for far too long. The Liberty Science Center will break ground on a complex called SciTech Scity in the Summer of 2018. SciTech City will contain:
- The Liberty Science K-12 School
- Edge Works - research and workspace
- Scholars Village - residential community
If development begins on schedule in 2018, the hope is SciTech Scity will be open by 2020 or 2021 at the latest. Edge Works will play host to tech startups and corporations, with plans for a conference center, auditorium, theater, and more. Scholars Village is slated to have 266 units, with 154 being reserved for grad-level individuals in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) from NJ and NY. Out of the remaining units, 50 will be held for short term consultants, and the rest will be for people working in SciTech Scity. The K-8 portion of the Liberty Science school will most likely be a charter school, with aims at making grades 9-12 the best science and tech high school in the world.
The Jersey City Planning Board approved SciTech Scity, LLC's proposal on 12/20, and developers continue to work to gain further approvals to advance the project. Stay tuned for more updates!
