You know how most times you don't really realize what's missing from your life until it appears? Well that's kind of like PS Wine bar in downtown Jersey City. It opened up late last year in the downstairs space of Pet Shop, a new bar that came into town a few months prior. But don't let the basement location fool you, it's the real deal.

Now I realize downtown JC already has a few wine bars, such as Third & Vine, Sátis Bistro, and others, but I really do think you can distinguish PS. I don't know about you, but I'm all about aesthetics and the vibe of a place - it's the character and charm that gets me every time. And that's exactly what PS has. It has the feel of a cozy wine cellar, with exposed brick, dim lights, and charming furniture.

But enough about the space, let's talk wine. A few things you have to know right off the bat. First, they love to change up their wine menu - and they tend to do it right when a crowd favorite appears to be emerging on their menu. Which is hysterical but kind of awesome. Their stance is - why should one wine get all the attention - share the love! This is a place that really wants you to explore. To that end, I love how open they are to answering your questions, discussing the wines, and offering to bring out varieties of wine to taste (which I always take them up on). The other thing is, the wine menu features always interesting, natural wines. To be honest, I'm still not entirely sure what natural wine means…but don't worry, it's nothing to be afraid of.

Hungry? They've got you covered. Other than your classic cheese board, you can also order off of the full menu from Pet Shop upstairs.

All in all, I really enjoyed this spot, friendly service, great wines, and a charming cellar atmosphere. Cheers!
