It's no secret that Jersey City is one of the trendiest spots in the metropolitan area. Every night a new restaurant is opening; every weekend, a new festival is happening. Contemporary bars and eateries are popping up all over Jersey City, but even trendier than the places to eat and drink, are the places to shop.
We personally think there's nothing more satisfying than a great meal and and even better shopping trip and with all the boutiques, cafes and brunch options in our area, the eating and shopping possibilities are endless. Here's to taking advantage of weekends in Jersey City and all the local storefronts we can shop at!
Before shopping, fuel up at a go-to spot like Sam A.M. in Paulus Hook for fresh baked goods, breakfast and lunch, and unbeatable coffee. Their menu changes seasonally and features dishes like smoked salmon, chicken and waffles, French toast and pot roast. (Added bonus: if you BYO champagne, they'll make you a fresh squeezed mimosa!)
After Sam A.M., a trip to local-owned Kanibal & Co. on Grove St. is a must. It's filled with unique home goods and decor, accessories, men's and women's apparel, and many more things. The boutique sells locally made goods from artists and designers like The Lucky HoneyBee and Arcos, and hosts crafting classes taught by local artists and 100% of the proceeds go back to the instructor. (See the events here!)
Boutique owner and Jersey City resident Kristen Scalia best explained shopping at your small, local storefronts: "When you come and buy something at a store, it's going back to the community in so many different ways."
Want to keep shopping? Check out these other storefronts that are close to Kanibal & Co.:
- Another Man's Treasure – A vintage shop of thrifters dreams! Find apparel, shoes, jewelry, décor and more that's uniquely yours!
- Hazel Baby & Kids – A cute boutique filled with apparel for babies, toddlers and kids!
- Cool Vines – A wine and beer shop that helps you shop for your alcohol based on taste. Perfect for unwinding after a day exploring Jersey City!
And we know that good eating doesn't just stop at brunch! Check out these other restaurants in the Paulus Hook neighborhood for dinner and drinks:
Drinks are authentic and the food is a step above your average bar food, making it great stop for a beer and a burger!
The rustic food, drinks and décor of this restaurant are what Paulus Hook is all about. They have shuffleboard (even a league) and darts too!
