At last it's PICNIC SEASON! April showers have given way to May flowers and our Garden State is finally showing its true color - GREEN! Luckily, Jersey City has some pretty charming parks to be al fresco all day.
Liberty State Park
A beautiful oasis in our ever growing urban jungle. Here you can have a picnic with Lady Liberty herself under a shady grove of trees outfitted with tables and charcoal grills. Mmm barbecue. Or be romantic and lay out a blanket at one of the open fields and soak in the sun with sweeping views of lower Manhattan. It's also a great place to take a leisurely bike ride or fly a kite and send it soaring. Sky's the limit at Jersey City's largest park. You are sure to find your perfect picnic spot here.
Grab that picnic blanket for a hideaway in the Heights. This is the perfect little spot for an impromptu outdoor chow down. On Sunday there is a farmer's market with several food vendors where you can à la carte your own picnic basket, with local choices like Buster's sandwiches, burritos from El Chilango and Bang Cookies for dessert. Not here on a Sunday? Hit up Darkside of the Moo on Bowers for some seriously good burgers with a side of midtown views.
Ok now here's the game changer, Jersey City has a beach! Well, sort of. Check out Newport Green Park on Washington Blvd to feel some sand beneath your feet. But first, load up at Target with your favorite snacks or hit up Bwè Kafe for pastries and iced chai. Then throw down a towel or grab an adirondack chair (if you're lucky).
