Is there anyone out there who doesn't enjoy live music and/or comedy? I, for one, can't get enough of either! The bars and restaurants below are all great places to get your live entertainment fix without having to leave Jersey City!

Groove on Grove

If you've been downtown on a Wednesday night in summer, you know all about Groove on Grove. It's a weekly concert series that runs from May-Sept every Wednesday 6-9pm. Groove on Grove features food from restaurants, products from local businesses, and a showcase of local talent. It's a great place to take in some free music while also supporting local businesses.

The Brightside Tavern

The Brightside Tavern is much more than the restaurant + bar with your favorite owner (Tommy Two Scoops). Monday night Jazz is a thing. You can see some great musicians jam and play your favorite songs every Monday 8pm-12am.

WFMU's Monty Hall

Monty Hall is a live music venue in Paulus Hook that is owned by Jersey City's very own radio station WFMU. They opened their doors in 2014 and haven been growing ever since. This intimate venue features mostly indie bands, but you'll find some of everything on their calendar. With their inexpensive tickets, proximity to convenient parking and to the Exchange Place PATH station, this venue is perfect for locals and visitors alike.

PJ Ryan's Squared

PJ Ryan's Squared is the bigger, younger sibling to PJ Ryan's in downtown JC. Their website boasts "30 beers, 40 whiskeys and a hearty menu" all of which you can enjoy while listening (or dancing) to live music in their spacious pub. They feature musical acts Thursday-Saturday, usually all night. It's a great place to discover new bands and have a great time while doing it!

Raval

No more trekking across the Hudson to go to a comedy club and pay an exorbitant tab, there's now one right in town! As a lover of comedy, I was thrilled to hear that Raval hosts a comedy show once a month. The aptly named Mid-Week Comedy show is located in their basement Lounge "Red", once a month on Wednesday. For $15 you have a fun way to mix up your hump day. Sometimes they even raffle off free tickets to a future show! The next show is 6/21 at 7pm.
