If you ask me, we're all crazy dog people deep down at heart. I mean, who doesn't love a nice casual drink with a pup in plain sight? Yes, it's not really "drinking alone" if your dog is home, but sometimes we all just want to get out and spend some time with friends (beverage in hand) and have a perfectly lovable and pettable furry friend just a few feet away. It's a shame that most dog owners have to leave these loyal fur babies at home when heading out for a night out on the town. Luckily, Downtown Jersey City offers a wide variety of dog-friendly, alcohol accessible joints, and I'd love to share a few of my favorites with you.

Departed Soles

This is, by far, my favorite place to take the pooch in Downtown JC. For starters, this spot is completely indoors. That means, from January to December you can enjoy a wide selection of brews hand-crafted in your very own city. Score! The joint does not offer a food menu but you can order-in from your favorite local eatery! No complaints with that. Discover your favorite cold one on a skateboard flight at this prime microbrewery or relax and chat with the owner, Brian, who is very friendly and typically on site. Hey, you may even make the news like we did!

Drink of Choice: Philoso-Rapper

Würstbar

The simple fact that I am sitting on the front patio at Würstbar writing this article with a beer in hand and Tyga (my fur baby) in the seat across from me should say it all about this place. The laid-back atmosphere is the perfect place to unwind alone or with friends, and the glass windows make for great people watching (if you're into that). The beer selection is one of the best in Jersey City, and rotates on a consistent basis. You'll also find an intriguing lineup of fine sausage and other trendy bites at this local hangout. And hey, it's even open late!

Location: 516 Jerey Ave. Jersey City, NJ 07302

Drink of Choice: Kane IPA

Jersey Wines & Spirits

OK not exactly a bar, per se, but the experience is absolutely incredible! It's truly enjoyable when you step into this joint. I mean, seriously, the selection is awesome, and the staff knows their stuff. Not to mention, they ALL love dogs and pups are typically welcomed with a belly rub and some treats. The fine wine shop also offers a variety of complimentary tastings throughout the course of the week.

Drink of Choice: Rickshaw Pinot Noir

The Lutze Biergarten

If you're a sucker for views, you better check this place out! It's an outdoor, waterfront biergarten filled with a wide array of booze, beautiful views, games, and {yes, you guessed it), PUPS! This place is a Summertime gem booming with Jersey City pride. I swear you could almost fall asleep in their lawn chairs, that is, if you're not enjoying a bite from the local food vendors on site! Get here before this Summer comes to a close.

Location: 15 2nd St. Jersey City, NJ 07302

Drink of Choice: Frosé

The Bistro

Conveniently located right off of the PATH station in Grove Square, The Bistro is a classy restaurant and bar. Dogs are allowed to be seated outside with their owners, and a fresh bowl of water can always be expected. The drinks are exotic and the food is diverse, yet both are delicious! Heat lamps are offered outdoors which allows for dining and drinking with your companion most months out of the year. Table for two, please!
