As reported by PhillyVoice, the always beloved bike race is set to return to Manayunk in 2018! Though the name will be changed (as well as the ownership of the race), plans are being made to roll out the Independence Classic on Sunday, June 3, 2018.
This year's Philadelphia International Cycling Classic was cancelled in January due to a lack of funding and rising security costs. The city of Philadelphia had previously owned the event, but race director Robin Morton said a Midwest-based group of investors will own next year's Independence Classic. Although the route is not yet confirmed, Morton doesn't expect any drastic changes. The race is still expected to include the grueling uphill portion along Levering Street & Lyceum Avenue known as the "Manayunk Wall." We'll update this article as more information on the race is released, so stay tuned!
