There is little that gets us more excited than hearing about a new place opening up in town. Jersey City keeps getting better with the addition of The Royal!
Finishing touches are being put on The Royal's facade.
The Royal will be opening up at 100 York Street, in the space Lisbon Restaurant, a Portuguese place, used to reside. The Royal is owned and operated by Paul Cate & George Makrogiannis, the same ownership team of next door's Buddy Who's. The tentative grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony is set for February 3rd.
Cate and Makrogiannis met at Liberty Prime Steakhouse many years ago and have always spoke about running a place together. The duo has been influential throughout Jersey City for some time with Makrogiannis owning Liberty Prime Steakhouse since 2013 while Cate has been a resident for 9 years and a committee member in Jersey City's Ward E, District 3 since last year.
Getting ready for the February 3rd grand opening!
The Royal will be Jersey City's second gay bar. Its name comes from Cate's father's and grandfather's home oil distribution company, The Royal Oil. The original sign will be used for out front, while old black and white photos of the business will be on the walls inside.
The bar received a major makeover from what it was at Lisbon.
Patrons will be able to enjoy small plates and happy hour specials on food and drinks from 3-7pm. Get ready for some awesome events throughout the week too including drag bingo brunch on Sundays and drag nights on Tuesdays. The Royal will bring in DJs, have a full dance floor, and a small stage. Hours will be 3pm-3am on Fridays and Saturdays and 3pm-2am Sunday through Thursday.
There will be a stage in the back corner with the walls being adored with The Royal Oil photos.
Have A Night will have more updates as The Royal gets closer to its opening date. We will have updated photos of the space and more details regarding menu items and specific drink specials!
